About
Interested in asking the challenging questions? Have you ever felt you have to give your total self in order to be a volunteer and to experience what volunteerism can do for you?
This blog is facilitated me, Martiel Beatty. I am not here to say you are wrong or to ask you to change your mind on any perspective. However, I do challenge you to think about the human condition and volunteerism. I encourage you to see service as a gift which shapes our humanness. I will be documenting my volunteer experiences as an AmeriCorps VISTA Leader for the next year.
I hope to share with you my successes, failures, frustrations, concerns, near misses, suggestions, ideas, and perspectives. As my audience, and as a member of the discussion, I encourage you to step beyond your comfort zone and express constructively as well as passionately within the context.
I give you permission to disagree; I also welcome those who agree, equally. Nevertheless, I do have a few rules, be respectful, don’t come here to change others’ minds, but to share your ideas and thoughts around what is presented. While most of the information here will be reflections about my life and the experiences therein, I challenge you to engage me in conversation which compares and contrasts our human conditions.
Now, join me in this journey, as I learn about the human condition and it’s imposition on service among people of the world and with whom I have the opportunity to lead.
